I don’t go to movie theaters anymore. Haven’t done so in two years, I think. Why not? Oh simple reasons like expensive tickets (x2 since I got married) and general discomfort (e.g. stiff seats, annoying fellow audiences, long waits, difficult parking). Besides, I have a decent home theater now.
But enough of my intro, this entry is really about an article on how movie theaters make money. It’s an informative read, but to summarize, they make money on
- tickets,
- concessions,
- and pre-screening advertisements.
Ever more expensive item 1 and ever lengthy item 3 are among the reasons I don’t go to movie theaters anymore. Item 2 does not affect me because I am normally too cheap to buy those.
You do have a nice home theater. I should take more advantage of that when I visit.
