Free Starbucks WiFi for AT&T customers

Woohoo, according to this link, us AT&T DSL customers can access free WiFi from Starbucks starting May 1st!

I wonder if this service extends all the way to Singapore, in which I will be vacationing for 2 weeks? Or maybe Taiwan for that matter? Guess “nation wide” refers to US.

My IM history up to Digsby

Two days ago I started trying out Digsby as my IM software of choice. It looks beautiful and works well as a multi-protocol instant messenger. The downside are its big memory footprint and the required online account registration (although the online account is then used to synchronize your customizations across different Digsby instances on different computers). There are small bugs here and there, but finally I no longer envy the Mac crowd for their Adium software.

Costco, Arco, and Union 76

For the past week I have been driving my Civic around fueled by Costco gas. It didn’t feel right - Costco’s variety didn’t deliver as much power or zest compared to Union 76’s that I usually use. Today I topped up my Civic with Union 76, and I could feel the power surge right away as I drove away from the gas station. Mind play? Perhaps.

Arco’s gas was worse than Costco’s. My wife doesn’t mind Costco’s gas, but she does of Arco’s.

(All brands of gasoline mentioned above are of regular unleaded.)

My new Timex watch
Timex Expedition Perpetual Calendar

Got myself a new watch on Sunday in Gilroy Outlet. It’s a Timex Expedition Perpetual Calendar. I bought it on impulse because it’s relatively cheap and nicely sized. I paid $40 plus tax, which is around what Amazon offers.

The perpetual calendar function doesn’t interest me much though. In fact, I find it a potential bother - the watch is preset at factory for a particular time zone and requires tweaking when the battery is replaced. Timex offers ‘free’ battery replacement, except that I would have to mail in the watch and pay $7 for shipping and handling.

I tried to take sharper pictures with wider depth-of-field, but without a tripod and artificial lighting, the ones you see here are the best I could do. Both were taken today evening with my Tamron macro lens mounted on the Nikon D80. As implied, camera was hand held and the subject (the Timex) was naturally lit.

Wikipedia in classical Chinese

The English version of Wikipedia is typically the first resource I turn to when I research something on the Net. I don’t think it would be true for the Classical Chinese version though. And by “classical” I don’t mean “traditional” - I am referring to the ancient ways. Let’s just say that my eyes were sore after looking at the front page.

喜马拉雅星

刚刚看了租来的《喜马拉雅星》DVD,实在忍不住想大骂此片的编剧,竟能编出如此垃圾,而奇怪的是香港电影界也花钱推出这类作品,招我严重鄙视。
